Del Whitman Opens with a “Full
House” of Experience
|
It is dream for many, and a dream
come true for Gunsmith Del Whitman. This Fall he opened his own
gunsmith business!
After serving his “apprenticeship” in gunsmithing
for almost 10 years, he felt the time was right… now! And
it appears that he was right, for in just the few short months
that he has been open, the guns are steadily coming in!
|
Del spent three years at the Pine Technical College in their
gunsmithing program - he then worked at Rigby for five years,
honing his skills. He spent the next
two years establishing the gunsmith shop at Fieldsport in Travers City, MI,
before going on his own.
D. C. Whitman Custom Gunsmithing does custom repair and restoration, hot oil
stock bending, stock alterations, stock refinishing, custom stock making, leather
covered and rubber recoil pads.
Del has separate rooms for bluing and machining - everything from trigger pull
jobs to action work to re-laying ribs and barrel work… he even has done
specialized work for physically impaired shooters. Guns in for work can be test-fired
and impact-tested on-site before returning to their owner.
|
Those
who have gotten to know Del over the years, know heis
not only experienced and capable, but also efficient at expediting
the
work…a comparative rarity in the trade. You can send your
guns to him confident that you will get them back, better than
ever, in
the time promised!

Chase is the consummate purveyor of Fine Books on any and all aspects
of the Sporting World. Founded 23 years ago by Carol Lueder, (herself
a recovering book collector), Fair Chase announces on the cover
of each pastel-colored catalog… Fine Big Game and Wing Shooting
Books – New and Out-of- Print – Collectors and DeLuxe
Editions.
These “headlines” do cover almost all the bases, but
what cannot be revealed is the charming, witty and, yes, sometimes
irreverent way, these
books are described inside.
“Nice, fold-out map (repaired). Riding the cowcatcher on the Uganda railroad
then on safari with 200 men. Yikes!” “Well written in the grand
manner.” |
“Repaired
front hinge, else very good and tight.” “Spies and more!” “You’ll
be fascinated!” “Chock full of stuff that really happened
to the author!” You get the idea.
Carol Lueder in person is as direct, irreverent and knowledgeable
as her catalog copy. The next time you go to a Side by Side Event,
look for her Fair Chase booth.
You will be fascinated, surprised and entertained … and that includes the
books… you will also, somehow, buy one … or two… or more!
If you are not on her catalog list, call 540-463-9189 or 540-460-5302 (cell)
or e-mail fchase@localnet.com. Fair Chase, Inc., 925 Valley Pike, Lexington,
